    THE PERFECT PEDICURE
    October 26, 2007

While filling a foot bath with warm water, remove foot soak from packaging. Drop one of Shebas Secrets Pedicure Soaks in water and watch it fizz about! It's like a giant Alka-Seltzer fizzing in your tub! (kids love to watch this happen!) As you soak your feet for 10 minutes or so, listen to music, read a book or just relax and enjoy the sensation of the water.

Remove feet from the water and dry with a soft clean towel. Clip and file the toenails carefully and clean gently around cuticles. Rinse feet and gently pat dry.

While the feet are still moist apply a foot scrub to remove any hard skin or calluses from the areas around the heels especially. Try Shebas Secrets Organic Infusion Buffing Cream, Salt or Sugar Scrubs. Rinse the feet in the warm water. Wipe feet dry paying special attention to the areas between the toes.

Apply a good moisturiser such as Shebas Secrets Velveteen Overnight Cream or our Organic Infusion Moisturizing Lotion to the feet and ankle area. Steady massaging stokes will give you a relaxing and therapeutic foot pedicure treatment. Allow the lotion or cream moisturizer to soak into the skin.

Keep out of reach of children. For full body baths or personal preference, use an additional fizzy. Our Bath Bomb Fizzies are terrific to use in Full Baths.

"Say No to Sugar for One Week and Feel Great"
    by Chet Day
    August 17, 2007

According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, per capita consumption of added sugars has risen by 28% since 1983. The average American consumes at least 64 pounds of sugar per year, and the average teenage boy at least 109 pounds.

Consuming the typical amount of white sugar makes most people moody or hyper or cranky or nasty or just plain sick. Scientific studies funded by the sugar industry "prove" that white sugar won't hurt us one lick and is supposedly good for us. Baloney.

Be your own scientific study. Remove all white sugar from your diet for seven days and amaze yourself at how much better you'll feel at the end of that period. Be sure to check with your doctor before trying this if you are diabetic or have any kind of health problems related to sugar intake.

More disturbing sugar facts from the CSPI:
      - The typical American gets 16% of his or her calories from added sugars.
      - Children aged 6 to 11 get 18% of their calories from added sugars.
      - Teenagers (12 to 19) get 20% of their calories from added sugars.
      - USDA projects that if consumption trends continue, added-sugars intake will increase almost 20% between 1996 and 2005.

People who consume diets high in added sugars consume lower levels of fiber; vitamins A, C, E, and folate; magnesium; calcium; and other nutrients. By displacing protective nutrients and foods in the diet, added sugars may increase the risk of osteoporosis, cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease and other health problems.

Calorie-dense foods, which are typically high in sugar and/or fat, contribute to obesity. Between 1976-80 and 1988-94, overweight rates in teenage boys rose from 5% to 12%, in teenage girls from 7% to 11%, and in adults from 25% to 35%. If you think the obesity trend hasn't continued, stop and look at the people around you when you're outside today.

I repeat the point of today's health tip: remove all refined sugar (read the labels on everything you eat and purchase) out of your diet for one week and see how much better you feel and act without the stuff in your body.

Some docs were onto the dangers of refined sugar almost a hundred years ago. For an interesting flash from the past, check out: http://chetday.com/sugar.html

Tips & Home Remedies For Bleeding Gums
    July 26, 2007

With a pinch of salt soaked in a glass of lukewarm water, you now create a homemade saline solution. Use this to rinse in the morning and in the evening. This will help increase circulation in your gums and reduce the swelling.

No matter how well and how often you brush your teeth, you can't reach the areas between your teeth and below the gums. Make the habit of flossing. Floss comes in very handy. Keep one in your bag or at your office. After meal, floss it!

Natural Treats for Dark Circles Under Your Eyes
    June 26, 2007

Do you suffer from dark circles under your eyes? If so, you're not alone. Don't just try to conceal it, try these easy ideas.

    * Get enough sleep. Each night, go to bed 20-30 minutes earlier if not more.
    * Remove all of your makeup followed by a moisturizer around your eyes before bed.
    * Drink plenty of water to hydrate the skin.
    * Eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Iron deficiency can cause dark circles around the eyes.
    * Apply cold compresses. Try these ideas below.

POTATOES: Potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase, which is used in cosmetics as a human skin lightener. Grated potatoes can lighten under-eye circles. Grind one uncooked potato in a food processor then wrap the mash in a piece of cheesecloth or fold inside a coffee filter. Apply to the area directly beneathyour eye. Leave on for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse with cool, clean water. (Caution - Do not get potato juice in your eyes. If you do, rinse well with clean water).

CUCUMBERS: The natural moisture from the cucumber acts as a healing tonic, while the cucumber juice helps to lighten the skin too. Great for tired and puffy eyes. Helps to get rid of dark circles under eyes or around eyes. Thinly slice a chilled cucumber . Tilt your head back and close your eyes. Apply chilled cucumber slices over your eyes and under eye area. Leave it on for a relaxing 15 minutes. Gently rub the slices over and under eye area, and rinse wash off with cool water. You will feel relaxed and refreshed.
